Currently I'm seeing a direction of nursing and health care that seems to
me fits perfectly with our work:
They call it "strength based" case management or care. It means that you
find the GOOD things going on with a family/mom and you encourage them to
continue this - once they succeed in one thing, it gives them the power and
knowledge to complete other positive tasks.
What better behavior to encourage and give power to women than
breastfeeding? We have a very high breastfeeding initiation rate - a
strength - but moms drop off quickly. What if we created programs to
ecourage THIS strength???
(Forget that La Leche League and many others have been doing this for
decades - this is NEW) <with tongue firmly implanted in the cheek>
