I have not been following the discussion on milk banks, but just read Barbara's response and it sounded to me as though LCs are discouraging the use of them. I will share a current client story on the use of donor milk. Maybe it will encourage others to support the efforts of donors and of milk bank use.

I currently have a repeat client who delivered her 3rd baby on Friday. Her history of low milk is as a result of a breast reduction. Last time she used milk donated by her cousin who was breastfeeding her own child and shipped my client pumped milk. This time she ordered colostrum and mature milk from the milk bank in Colorado. I'd given her the contact numbers for the milk banks in the country last time when her cousin could no longer donate milk to her.

I've applauded this mom for seeking her donor milk and for wanting human milk for her babies. I feel it is my responsibility to encourage her and to optimize her ability to provide breastmilk to her new baby. And, I agree with Barbara that it is sad if others are not conveying this kind of message, nor doing this type of care plan for mothers and babies.
