But, do the powers that be really see any difference between breastfeeding
and formula feeding? Seriously? Don't most of the "experts" at BRU think
it's just another job description, and really, who cares? They get paid,
whether or not the mother actually figures out the pump, they get paid if
the mother never figures out the pump, they get paid if the mother returns
the pump early (already rented for the month, and there is a looong waiting
list), they get paid if the mother comes in to buy formula.

BRU gets money no matter what. Who cares, really? And, why should they pay
for training for a bunch of low-paid employees? Even if the LC donates time
to train, BRU still has to pay the hourly wages of the employee who is being
trained. That adds up. And, why should they pay for "extra" when "we sell
formula, and it's just as good."

In the eyes of society, the people who support breastfeeding are "just
trying to make me feel guilty" for not breastfeeding. The people who suggest
there is risk to using formula are "trying to scare me."

Of course, I don't feel this way, neither do any of you. But, the vast
majority of the public and business communities feel there is no difference,
so who cares.

However... If a mother is injured because of poor pumping practices, due to
lack of education, and sues BRU, that's a horse of a different color.
Suddenly, those wonderful money-making pumping machines become a liability.

Wonder if there's be a lawyer interested in one of those class-action suits
you see on TV all the time, "Are you one of the millions of women who rented
a pump from BRU and suffered damages..."

Best wishes,
Sam Doak

I do monthly BF talks at. So far - nothing. The gal who sets up their
education calendar is having a hard time I think with getting that done.not
by her fault tho. She is very aware of the lack of education the employees
have and has told me bluntly that they really got no education at all from
Medela. It is just another 'thing' they do at the registry/information
desk.
