In answer to the post on chylothorax. Pregestimil is a hypoallergenic
formula designed for use in infants sensitive to intact proteins and who
may have fat malabsorbtion difficulties. The composition of this formula
is (gm/100ml)
6.8 CHO, 1.9 Pro, 3.7 Fat. The fat is in the form oF MCT Oil, Corn oil,
High oleic safflower oil, and soy oil. It does have adequate fat for the
infant. Apparently the MD feels this "fat recipe" will benefit the
infant. This ratio of protein, CHO and fat is similar to the ratio in
other formulas such as the basic soy-based and milk-based formulas that
full-term healthy babies are
prescribed.
