a few months back, i posted a case titled "zero milk transfer". cathy
genna and a few others asked if baby had preauricular ear tags - i didn't
know what they were, but it turns out baby didn't, and went on to
breastfeed well, eventually.

well, today i saw my first baby with preauricular ear tags! baby is
transferring poorly at the breast, but there are other factors that might
be contributing to poor transfer - possible low milk supply due to some
risk factors in mom.

However - with a good latch and a lactation aide in place, baby appeared to
nurse well (rythmic, wide jaw excursions, etc.) and kept milk in the tube,
however simply didn't transfer much via lactation aide - 20 cc in
15 minutes or so - and was still hungry.

so i am asking you all, as i begin my search - are the preauricular ear
tags a red flag of some potential syndrome that has no other visible (to
me) symptoms but can impede suck function? I saw no other signs of genetic
anomoly - though i know they aren't always obvious. Baby has been gaining
well on supplement, but is always hungry - never satisfied.

After this next week, i hope to hone in on exactly what the problem is, and
am keeping my fingers crossed it is just impeded milk supply. Thanks in
advance for any insight.
