Concerning BF utopia - I believe the Pacific Northwest has done some
wonderful things for our communities to enhance BF. I went to a conference
in Yakima, Washington last November with the key speaker being "DR. MOM",
Marianne Neifert. The conference committee used her knowledge concerning BF
with their communities in a wonderful way. A parent meeting was held at a
community church and she talked about parenting to a group of approximately
200 parents. The next morning she met with docs and discussed BF at an area
hospital. She then presented us ( nurses,LC's, RD's, WIC
certifiers, professionals from health departments, community clinics,
hospitals, and physicians offices) a Day With Dr. Mom. The afternoon session
was broken up into small groups and then Dr. Neifert went to talk to the
hospital residents and showed some slides on prenatal breast assessment.
This speaker was used in a valuble way and I especially enjoyed hearing how
the Physicians were being informed.
Another great model is the Evergreen Hospital staff and community of
Kirkland, just north of Seattle. I feel so blessed to live in this area and
have these great resources available to me.
TEAMWORK - never doubt that a small group of thoughtful, committed people can
change the world. Indeed, it is the only thing that ever has.(Successories)
