Thanks for all the lactnet and private replies which have all been very
helpful. There is a split between advising to go and not to go. Most replies
favor go and speak but not accepting an honorarium or partaking of any foods
etc.
On the one hand, there is much good to be spread by imparting good info and
by publicly making the disclaimer that one is not accepting funding and why.
And on keeping professional committments and not leaving a 'fanatical'
impression. On the other hand there is the danger of associating with
formula marketers for one's professional reputation and the chance that they
would use one's good name or reputation for their benefit, like maybe saying
"xxx spoke at our conference". However I have carefully read the Who code
and resolutions, ibfan website, Who website, iblce code of ethics. My
understanding is that one may speak and not accept funding and not be in
violation of any code of ethics or Who code. Of course personal ethics and
not wanting to be assoc with any conf. with any formula involvement is a
strong consideration as well. Someone shared this with me:

["IBLCE CERP credits may be awarded for relevant programs sponsored
by qualified providers so long as no manufacturer or marketer of
artificial infant feeding products or any other related person or
entity exercises any control over the choice of speakers, or
exercises any control over the content of the program. CERPs will
not be given for any presentation given by a speaker who has a
relationship with a manufacturer or marketer of artificial infant
feeding products." ]
I will find out the extent of Ross involvement. It seems they are printing
the syllabus and that's it. Lunch is on your own. I will find out if they
will be present, for example, a vendor table and freebie giveaways before I
make a decision.
