Mitochondrial disorders are tough problems. It's not so much that this 
child lacks antibodies, it's that all the cells of his body lack energy 
because one of the mitochondrial enzymes that create all the energy for 
the body are lacking. Antibodies don't kill germs themselves, they 
"flag" germs so other immune cells or immune products such as complement 
can kill them. So even with good numbers of antibodies, the cells that 
respond to the antibody-tagged germs are not able to do their job.

So, from my very rudimentary understanding of mitochondrial disorders, 
giving mom vaccines is unlikely to be helpful.
