Berkeley WIC sponsored the attempt to break the Guiness record again for the
most breastfeeding babies feeding simultaneously yesterday, August 9. They
were unable to break last year's record of over 1100 mothers, but were able to
have 767 mothers with their infants make a wonderful statement in support of
breastfeeding. The past US Surgeon General, Dr. Thatcher was there and made a
wonderful talk in support of breastfeeding, and he mentioned the "Blueprint For
Health" made during his term. The count itself was in a grand auditorium, while
the rest of the families basked in the sun and took part in festivities in
the park. It was very moving to see the mothers and babies, as well as hundreds
of strollers parked outside the event. Slings were very present, but seeing
the strollers was actually moving, when you knew that they each had held one(at
least) baby who was breastfeeding inside the building. What a great event!
