Marit,
Could you forward details of the name of the organisation privately? I'd
also refer you to the info pack on infant feeding in emergencies which
contains model letters that could be modified to be used for non-emergency
situations.

Subject: goat's milk

I have permission to post. A friend and fellow member of LLL:s
Swedish equivalent, Amningshjälpen, donated money for a goat through
an aid organization as a Christmas present for someonte. Recently,
she got a reply from the organization. It tells about how a 22-year-
old mother of three from a poor village in Mozambique got
breastfeednig problems and the hospital advised her to use powdered
milk instead - but it was too expensive.
- Oh, good, then a village midwife came to her help, my friend
thought. But instead the e-mail goes on about how the mother was told
that she could receive goat's milk for her infant from the aid
organization. I translate, as good as I can:
"Already after one month my son began to gain weight and today he is
healthy. Without the help from [the organizaton] he would have died
from malnutrition.I've seen many children do that in my village." and
below, my translation. Goat's milk for infants is only one effect of
[the organization's] goat project. There are more ...
She has written back to the organization, among other thing reminding
the organization that 1,3 million babies die yearly due to lack of
breastfeeding and asked them if it really took a whole month before
her baby started gaining weight. I can let you know if she gets an
answer.
