<I have used the term "concentrated" milk for colostrum. I explain that
since the baby has a small tummy he needs a concentrated form of
breastmilk at first to "practice" with. I explain that it is packed
with all the vitamins, proteinsfats, etc that he needs to start with.
As he begins to learn how to get the milk out more efficiently, he takes
more. As he takes more, he wants more and his tummy begins to hold
more. About this time the transition to mature millk begins. The baby
is more mature and can handle the larger volume and faster flow more
easily. This seems to make sense to the mothers when I approach "I
don't have any milk yet" comment that way.>

Wow, that is almost what I say!! That Nature provided special milk for
the first few days of life where the baby's digestive tract is so
immature that it cannot handle too much at once. Also, his body is busy
adapting to the outside world…..main organ functioning adapting to
extrauterine life, and the digestive system is not meant to overwork.
I also say that most babies seem to be nauseated during the first few
days, that the colostrum really calms their stomachs, which is probably
why the only place they really seem happy is when they are on the
breast, especially on day 2. This explains why they scream when mom puts
them back in the plastic box!!

Great minds think alike.

The main complaint that most moms have about breastfeeding help is that
everyone says something different. Yet isn't is interesting that LC's
all over the world say more or less the same thing?? Even though we
have never met each other.
