One solution might be to pump in the car on the way to the airport, pump on
the plane, and then pump in the car after arriving. I did similar routines
when I traveled a couple times with my infant son. I just packed several
sets of flanges and bottles so that I wouldn't need to try to wash the parts
in between pumping.

I also sat in the middle seat on the airplane with a total stranger on one
side of me and husband/son on the other, and just pumped right there. I
tossed a baby blanket over me and I think I just did one side at a time so
as to avoid the awkwardness of trying to hook up to my hands-free band, and
that way I still had a hand free. Nobody ever said anything (and heaven
help them if they did!). She could also find a fairly deserted gate in the
terminal and sit and pump there. Even though I know public spaces are
crawling with all kinds of germs and yuckies, I just could not see myself
ever pumping in a bathroom.

My understanding is that breastmilk and formula are allowed on airplanes in
quantities greater than the 3oz allotments of other liquids currently
permitted, so she should be able to bring some milk with her through security.

Good luck to this mom! It's one of those times when feeding directly from
the breast would have made life SO much easier. :)
