To me the primary problem is that even if the content is absolutely
perfect, the fact that it comes from a formula manufacturer carries the
subtle implication that formula is a normal part of infant feeding.  By
using an "Ask the LC" approach, they are trying to legitimatize what
they are doing.  In spite of all the nice words, the bottom line is that
they want to sell formula.  In fact it has been pointed out that
ethically, they can not do anything that undermines their own sales.
That is unfair to their investors!  It is tempting to say, "But if the
LC gives the information, isn't it likely to be more accurate?"  This
may be true to an extent, but many of us feel this is still tantamont to
prostituting our profession.  You cannot controil the pictures used
(e.g., breastfeeding in a nightgown vs bottle feeding in street
clothes), the relative positioning of pictures and content, etc.
I have often thought thay perhaps bottle feeding mothers should arise
and complain that they are paying more for formula to support the
so-called "breastfeeding support"!
