Lisa, I would also recommend to rent a baby scale and do a pre- and
post-feed weights. That way you will know if she is transferring enough.
By this age 2-2.5oz per feed should be the goal. Any signs of jaundice?

Subject: New mom worries

Although I am a lactation counselor, I am also a new mom of a 2 week old
so my CLC knowledge has kinda gone out the window. Baby girl born Nov 16
weighed 7lb 14oz, at discharge she was 7-8. At her 4 day visit she
weighed 7-10. Went to 2 week visit and she still is 7-10. She sleeps
with me and nurses about every 3 hrs at night and 2-3 during the day.
She appears satisfied between feeds (except now I am trying to put her
in her bassinet and she does not like that). Her output is good 3-4 dirty
diapers and 6-8 very wet diapers. At the check up her head circumference
had increased and her length increased by an inch. But she was not at
birth weight as she should have been. Her Pedi stated she was not very
concerned about her because she appears healthy and strong, but has
given me a week to increase her weight to birth weight. I need advice on
where to start. I bought Fenugreek and started it yesterday I also have
a double electric Medela pump that I started using between feeds but I
don't want to lessen the volume that is available to her. We struggled
at first with getting the latch right but have since improved it and no
longer have pain. She does appear to get very sleepy at the breast even
with undressing. Is there something that can be done about that. Thank
you all so much for your words of wisdom.
