I am currently nomail getting ready to go away, but I am posting for a had
homebirth midwife who called this morning and would like information to
assist a family whose baby girl, born at the weekend, has a cleft palate
and the doctors think she has Pierre Robin Syndrome. The
baby has a short fat tongue and very receding chin.

The mother has breastfed her other children and is very committed.
She will certainly provide breastmilk for this baby, but would like to
breastfeed. She would also like to communicate with other mothers who have
had similar experiences and perhaps join a support group. The mother
plans to get connected to the internet for this purpose.

Meanwhile, please don't reply to me - mail directly to the midwife,

if you have any experience with supporting breastfeeding for a baby
with these problems or could recommend resources, contacts or a support
group. Of course you can also respond to Lactnet for others to read, but
neither of us will see those posts.

The NMAA Conference in Sydney was wonderful. Lots of Lactnetters
there. Kathy Dettwyler wowed them all. She was also interviewed on TV with
wide coverage - all about long term breastfeeding. A very positive piece.
