<<He has always had a terrible temper and could be
impossible to manage when he lost control of himself. I have rarely seen
another child who flew off the handle so completely... However, I could
nurse him for literally only a minute or two and
he would have himself under control and be back to charming everyone!>>

I had such a son myself and can fully appreciate the power of nursing in
calming tantrums. My nipples got so very sore during pregnancy (in addition
to the nausea!) that my other children were weaned sometime during the next
pregnancy. However, my son's behavior was so positively impacted by just a
couple of minutes of breastfeeding that he was my only tandem nursed child
(well, except for my daughter that he was tandem nursing with!) Though I
wanted and attempted to wean him while pregnant with my youngest daughter,
those tantrums were an indication to me that he still needed it, even though
they often occurred outside the context of nursing, meaning he hadn't asked
and I was trying to discourage it. He'd just lose control and I'd pick him
up and let him nurse for 2 minutes and he was a different child! Anything
that has that kind of effect on someone shouldn't be taken away!
