Hi All!

As I was reading Kathy Eng's note, I remembered that I received, within the
last two weeks, some 'Belly Balls' from Ameda.(with reference to Linda
Smith's book "Coach's Notebook: Games and Strategies for Lactation
Education"). These are great teaching tools for how big a term newborn's
stomach is. There are three balls in a zipper bag with an explanation card,
one a marble, one a shooter marble and the last a ping-pong ball. The
explanation tells about the first being the stomach capacity of a D-1
newborn, then D-3, then D-10. (also a note about adults and how small little
snacks are better for us as well, so as not to be used to a stretched-out
stomach to fill up) I am going to use them to create a tri-fold teaching
tool. Another 'baby-step' in teaching the staff about how much is a good
amount to feed a newborn, especially when we have to 'demand' that they eat
on our schedule! The visual is wonderful, already the nurses that see this
little bag on my cart are curious and think it really sends in the message.

Thanks to Ameda! (I believe you could consult with them on how to get your
own Belly Balls!)
