This is so true. I usually work this concept into my childbirth classes
by asking the women, all in their third trimester, how many of them can
roll over at night in less than then minutes. It gets a laugh (then I
know I have their attention) and I continue to make the point, briefly,
that this is they body's way of preparing us for not sleeping for 8
hours at a stretch for a while, so that we can learn ways care for our
children and not be sleep deprived. Sometimes I add somewhere in the 6
week class series that I don't think people were meant to sleep 8 hours
at a stretch. That's just not the way we're designed. I haven't done
the research to see if there is any formal research to back up that
statement, it just strikes me as being true. Can anyone familiar with
sleep research point me to some articles about this?

Happy holidays to all who are celebrating.
