Jeanette, what? Formula comes from cows? Isn't it a magic formula dreamed up especially for my very own baby?

I'm at the USBC meeting in Wash DC this weekend and there's been a bit of emphasis on saying human milk for human babies. To me, that's taking all the motherly love & bonding out of the equation and just focusing on a product---which is a body fluid---which plays back into emphasizing the yuk factor.

Most of the public doesn't get the word play in human milk for human babies exactly because, as you noted, they don't know that formula comes from cows milk &/or soybeans.

How 'bout "mother's milk"? It's discreet for folks who don't want to say "breastfeeding" and keeps the relationships in there.

One of the coalitions here has a beautiful poster. (Ladies, if it's you, please stand up and take credit!) It's a gorgeous black guy holding a precious baby up near his face and gazing lovingly at the baby. The caption? "Mama's milk for Daddy's baby." THAT's terrific word play. Look at how many social marketing bases it covers!
Way to go to whomever came up with that!

(Where can we get copies?)
