Hi Kerry,
The reason you might not find alot of posts, esp. relating to common otc
meds, is becoz there are some great ref books out there on meds and bf. Of
course, Dr. Hale's book is the gold standard, it is reasonably priced. There
is also one on OTC by Frank Nice, he's on lactnet.
The non-sedating otc meds are rated pretty safe. Examples are zyrtec (can't
remember generic), claritin (loratidine), and allegra, as far as I know. I
always caution moms about milk supply issues when on antihistamines, altho
not so much a problem as if she were on benadryl (diphenhydramine?), for
example. Remember also consider the use of something like a steroid nasal
spray, saline nasal washes, and modify her environment if she can, so as not
to have to take so much otc meds (if possible).
Regarding giving medical advice, you would not be doing that if you were
just sharing with her the info on the meds from a reputable source.
