Ilene: I would recommend infant massage using the "I Love You" pattern, a
good homeopathic for intestinal colic such as NSP's colic remedy or Hyland's
brand (except Hylands is in lactose so if this is a serious consideration
use the NSP) and perhaps pumping, letting the milk settle and skimming and
feeding the hind milk to help calm the intestines.

Biologically it is EXTREMELY rare that a baby would be truly lactose
intolerant from the early months. LLLI even has a brochure on how rare (and
ridiculous) this is. There is a full bibliography in there (and I believe
one has been posted on LN in years past).

Usually moms say they've removed dairy but they haven't been counselled as
to how to really remove dairy from their diets. I have to give them a list
that includes casein, whey, lactose, milk solids, milk fat, milk curd, etc.
and tell them to read every label or better yet, eat no processed foods.
Then they say "oh, I thought I just had to get rid of milk, cheese, ice
cream etc." Even though we are sensitized to the protein portion, there is
a cross reaction that occurs with any product originating from the source.
In 50-80% of true cow milk protein allergy, they are also sensitive or truly
allergic to soy.

Other considerations for green stools include: formilk-hindmilk imbalance
and yeast.

Good luck!
