The girls always want =
to know why they got stuck with periods AND breasts
Dear Friends:
There are no societal rewards for doing uniquely female things in the
States; mothering and parenting and breastfeeding are at the bottom of the list
for receiving recognition, funding, and support from medical, social, and
employment organizations. Most of us on this listserve have more than one example
of this in our own professional arenas. A fair amount of the posts we write
about the difficulty we encounter trying to get mothers and babies together, and
keep them together.
How long will nurses and waitresses and teachers have to go without
eating or peeing during worktime because the system is not set up to recognize or
support those needs? How long will nurses be expected to start work 1/2 hour
early to get report, and stay 1/2 hour or more after the shift is over to do
charting and give report, and not be paid for that time? In the employers eyes,
it is a given that nurses will give that time, so it doesn't count for
reimbursement.
Females have greater endurance and can tolerate more then men. And they
are acculturated to accept it.
This is another point of view that might explain why a sensible young
girl would wonder why she has what she perceives to be burdens.
    warmly,
