I am so sad to here of the loss of another wonderful woman from among those
that make a difference in lives of mothers and babies. I never met her, but
I called her when I needed help. I can still hear her words as she gave me
hope that my milk would be enough for my twins. I often share what she said to
me with other mothers struggling with a milk supply..."Pam, if you are a
breastfeeding mom, and you do not quit, eventually you will have all the milk
they need." We had been talking about how I could not bottle feed, that I
would breastfeed with the SNS forever if I had to, but I was not willing to give
up nursing, etc. She was so kind and gentle and we brainstormed about some
new information about what could be interfering with my milk supply being
established. She had never met me, she just took the time from her life to talk
to another lactation consultant/LLL Leader and let me cry and listened. As
time passed and I worked with more and more women with milk supply isuses, her
words took new meaning. My milk did eventually come, and they were
exclusively breastfed babies. But, I understood then that what she also meant was if
my milk did not come in completely, as they got older, they would need less,
and I would still be a nursing mom. I didn't totally hear that then...I just
heard, wait, it will come because that is what I needed to hear. I'll never
forget her. I am so sad for all those who have to say goodbye to her.
