>As far as bowel movements are concerned, one useful bit of information is

>baby who is still having meconium bowel movements at day 4 is in trouble.

Just for my own clarification, Day 1 is the first 24 hours, at the end of
which a baby is one day old, right? So when a baby turns 2 days old, he
*starts and proceeds to spend his day in the midst of* Day 3. And when he's
a week old, we''re looking at a baby on Day 8? So when you say "changing
colour by Day 3, sometimes Day 2", you're saying that by the time he's 48
hours old stools should begin to change color, sometimes by the time he's 24
hours old? "Still having meconium at Day 4" means still having meconium by
the beginning of Day 4, which is when the baby has just turned 3 days old?

This is part of the same dilemma for me as "a 100% increase", which we take
to mean "twice as much", although when we say "a 300% increase" we often
mean "three times as much". And then there's fetal development. I can't
remember exactly what my confusion was when I was pregnant, but I think
there's a 2 week problem in there somewhere - we're deemed 6 weeks pregnant
6 weeks after we conceive, but 38 weeks pregnant 36 weeks after conception,
or some such. As I recall, somewhere in there, between when we count in
weeks and when we count months, the 2 weeks between menses and conception
get forgotten.
