Okay, I can agree with your perspective of not discouraging some populations
(e.g. WIC participants or those without access to other choices) from giving
their kids cow milk, but please don't persecute those of us who CHOOSE not
to pour milk down our kids' throats or encourage our well educated patients
with many options for calcium and protein consumption. I mean really
folks...open up any magazine a take a look at all those GOT MILK ads. Look
at the supposed concrete evidence that milk "does a body good". There has
been quite an effort to cover up any negative impact that milk has on us.
Now we are all being encouraged to consume low or nonfat milk, but the
proportionate amount of lactose (milk sugar) that we are pouring in is
substantial. What about all those people who are developing insulin
resistance from constant contact with sugars (including lactose). How about
the evidence that the homogenization process makes milk one of the nasty
items contributing to cardiovascular disease or that the phosphorous content
of milk actually contributes to osteoporosis instead of preventing it? This
doesn't even count things such as growth hormones or antibiotic residues.

Go ahead and drink your milk; you can even feel smug when you see all the
milk ads. Please let us have an open, educated discussion about an
industry that has a very large financial interest in getting babies all on
formula, as well as kids and adults gulping down the white stuff.
