Kathy,  I have this same condition and have researched it in the past
for my own piece of mind.  If microadenoma has been ruled out (like in
your mom's case), then she can relax.  Up to 3% of pre menopausal women
have a benign condition, galactorhhea, which causes them to lactate,
usually a very small volume, when there is no need or reason to.  My
first was nine when the twins came and I still was able to express drops
even though she weaned at 15 months.  Occasionally the milk has an odd
color, greenish, brownish.  Usually this is caused by fibrocycstic
changes.  The women who have this condition usually find that the amount
of milk varies with menstrual cycles and the amount of nipple
stimulation they have from husband or wherever.
