I was a bf counselor in a WIC office for almost a year before we moved. The
little town we lived in had a large teen pregnancy rate, about 18% for Jr.
High and High school combined, so I worked with many teens. Anyway, my
experience was that the girls were very receptive to my classes, really
liked the idea of giving their baby the best milk, etc...until baby was born
and mom took over! When I did a hospital visit grandma was there giving the
baby a bottle, "She's so tired after the birth". The girl and I would talk
about how things were going, and I'd answer questions and leave one or two
pieces of information with her.

When the baby was brought to the WIC office to be processed as a WIC
recipient, usually at two weeks, grandma was there to hold the baby, with a
bottle stuck in its mouth! By this visit the baby was completely on the
bottle. Very rarely did I ever see the actual mother of the baby holding the
baby.

So, I'm all for educating the parents of the teens to butt out, when their
intervention is not needed.
