I'm wondering if someone should do a study on the analgesic properties of
breastfeeding for the mom? Today I took staples out of a c-section incision
for a 16 year old new mom. She nursed her new baby during the whole
procedure and thought it helped quite a bit! I'm very proud of this new
mom. She had a very rough delivery experience and now is recovering from
surgery, but is doing an amazing job with this new baby. She and this 7 day
old look like a very experienced nursing couple and the baby is already 10
oz over birthweight!
Having a new mama like this who is doing so well despite significant
obstacles made my week. And I've been heaping praise on her for responding
so well to her baby's cues at every opportunity I get. Now hopefully she'll
get the support she needs to continue to breastfeed.
