My firstborn and I were one of the lucky dyads who made it to seven
weeks when breastfeeding suddenly was easier. I had no more pain but we did:

have prolonged feedings
have growth that fell off around 9 mos of age
have to put him back on the breast 500 times per feeding as he could not
maintain a latch
go through more diapers catching spit up than on his bottom! seriously,
the poor child lost much of every meal for his first 7 mos and then
needed to go back to eat some more to be full.

He suffered through:
7 years of speech therapy
sleep apnea as a child
orthodontia with maxillary expansion
and still has severe reflux as an adult

We had his frenotomy done when he was 10. His speech articulation was
normal after about 48 hours. The first 24 he didn't want to move his
tongue. He had to have his tonsils out too to provide a better airway
while all the palate expansion was being done. He described the
maxillary expansion as feeling like his skull and ears were being pushed
apart from the inside.

And we 'successfully' bf until he was almost 2, which is sadly less than
the biological optimum. I didn't know the difference until my second
child was born without a tongue-tie, and never gave me a second of pain
or difficulty. I used to ask her if she was really, really done eating
already!

This is why I'm a fan of a simple snip with a topical anesthetic in
infancy when warranted!
