Breastfeeding infants is so accepatable here in Italy, more so than in Australia where I am from. Breastfeeding older babies, beyond the first few months, was not so common when my 10 year old was a baby (I believe because many women breastfed their babies on a schedule and preferred to do it at home). I am beginning to see more and more women breastfeeding in public places (breastfeeding standing up in the park while following older children around is not uncommon). A few years ago I went to a school recital and when I began breastfeeding my toddler I looked over and saw another mother doing the same. I have even seen a woman expressing milk in public (in a bookshop) - I assume she didn't have anywhere private to do it. I have breastfed my two girls well into toddlerhood everywhere and anywhere here in Italy and never had negative comments. Mostly people are surprised but certainly not disgusted.
