Dear Dianne,
This sounds like a very good situation where the "Australian hold" could be
used. If mother lays down on her back and holds baby laying on her tummy,
with mother's hand on baby's forehead to support her, then gravity, or lack
of it, will slow the flow of milk into baby's mouth. Lots of aussie mums
with an ample supply in my NMAA group still use this postion, especially at
the beginning of lactation. Then as supply settles down, after let down,
sit up to aid drainage of the breast. One mother I was talking to the
other day had such a good supply she posture fed (Australian hold) for
about 4 months, and then baby was able to feed comfortably.

Hope this helps,
Cheers,
Gay Ryan
