Hello. My name is Jacki Glover. I am an IBCLC (since 1988) working in an
active treatment hospital in a town of 65,000. The hospital is a regional
facility serving a large area of approximately 2 million people. The
Lethbridge Regional Hospital's Breastfeeding Support Service provides in and
out patient services to breastfeeding mothers and their families and also
provides breastfeeding education to health professionals . I have had this
position for 8 years and find it challenging, satisfying and, yes, frustrating
at times. In my spare time, I enjoy doing workshops for anyone interested in
breastfeeding. I am particularly interested in breastfeeding assessment tools,
the newborn's natural spontaneous ability to begin breastfeeding and factors
which hinder or enhance these abilities. Does anyone have any references on
the effect of epidural anesthesia on breastfeeding outcomes? I am looking at
current research where a variety of other obstetrical drugs were not also
used. Is anyone aware of any studies on the effectiveness of alternative
methods of supplementation? I look forward to communicating with other LCs
about all sorts of breastfeeding issues.
