I thought the issue with WIC funding was that the Department of Agriculture
had a controlling interest in WIC, and the Division of Dairy was a heavy
hitter in their budget?

Why would WIC pay for someone that might cut funding for their largest
budget item - infant formula? Wisconsin, and Ohio, are HUGE dairy states.
I'm sure their lobby has quite a few dollars floating around.

We used to have a "breastfeeding nurse" with our WIC clinic here, and even
she's been cut. Part of her job was to follow-up with b/f moms and see how
they were doing. It was a wonderful day to get her call, she was a huge
cheerleader and was always so relieved to speak to "you're the ONLY mom I've
spoke with today who's still breastfeeding!" (she must have been very
frustrated!)

Best wishes,
Sam

<<Another problem is some WICs do not even employ an IBCLC! It is state
run, and in Wisconsin they are not required to have one (seems a RD is good
enough for breastfeeding, sigh...) This is a sore point for me as the WIC I
work with as a Peer Counselor does not "have funding" for a IBCLC, even
though I AM one. So what they get is a REALLY over-qualified Peer
Counselor. :( We serve THREE counties. >>
