I have asked myself this many times.  I will never forget a woman I met at a
dog club, who put her small children in a fenced off area while she trained
her dog.  She very seriously told everyone how bonded she was with her dog.
This bonding was important if you wanted a well-trained dog.  She slept with
the dog from the day she brought it home as a puppy - to enhance the
bonding.  Her children were not allowed in the bed - that would be spoiling
them.   What a sad world to be born into.....
