Annette says > I have a new job and was reprimanded for advoicing a mom at

perfect medium to grow bacteria!>

The way you handle this and learn from this is important. Dr Gordina made
some very good points. Then Marsha and Tricia gave you some evidence that
could provide a bit of defense for you. I think you could defend the part
about breastmilk not being a super breeding ground for bacteria, and that
it can and has been used therapeutically in such situations. However, I
don't think you could defend the part about advising a parent to use
breastmilk INSTEAD OF antibiotics, not having an appropriate provider
examine and diagnose, etc.

I am not trying to be mean, but these are lessons I've had to learn too: To
put it bluntly, know your place on the healthcare team, know your scope of
practice, know that breastfeeding won't cure everything, do your best to
get along with the team leaders. It is still important to advocate for your
clients and to provide your knowledge and expertise, which is unique to
your specialty of lactation consulting.
