Dear all,

I thought you might be interested in updates on two cases that you all
helped me with recently.

Mom #1: Asian parents with fussy 4 month old baby who would start to nurse,
pull up legs in pain, but only sometimes and unpredictably.
The main suspects were GER and dairy allergy. I gave info on both to Mom.
On her pediatrician's suggestion Mom rented a pump to improve milk supply
as baby had been taking a lot of formula and milk had dwindled.
This baby is now back to breast and has no problems at all! Mom did not do
anything special (except increase supply - maybe that was it?). She got
some confidence back and now trusts her breastmilk over formula. But she
didn't give up dairy. Mom insisted she had no family history of dairy and
didn't think it was dairy. It seems v. trendy to suggest dairy allergies at
the moment and stopping dairy really is a major intervention for Moms. I'm
glad this baby's problems resolved on their own....

Mom #2 was a teen pumping for a NICU baby and her supply was down and
baby's condition was worsening. Baby has since been diagnosed with
respiratory infection and is quite ill but Mom was relieved by this as it
explained some of baby's symptoms. Dr. prescribed Reglan at my request. I
had mentioned fenugreek to Mom but was warned by NICU nurses this was not
'done' in this hospital... Anyway Mom went to her grandmother and gran told
her to take fenugreek and drink mother's milk tea. So she did that instead
of taking the Reglan, as well as pumping every 2 instead of every 3 hours,
and her supply just bounced back. She was very happy!

I guess neither Mom really needed an expert - just time and grandma!!!
