I have a friend with hyperprolactinemia. She had high levels of prolactin
before becoming pregnant. An MRI didn't reveal anything but she was told
that there could be a tiny tumor on her pituitary. She was given
Bromocriptine for it and her levels went down and she was able to become
pregnant.

Her baby is now 5 months. Mom has a history of depression and has taken
Paxil, Effexor and is on Zoloft now. Increasing levels of Zoloft are not
helping her out-of-it feeling so she went back to the doctor thinking it
could be increasing prolactin between the diagnosis she had before and now
nursing a baby.

Other significant information: Mom has marital problems ongoing for quite
some time. Her husband is often non-supportive and non-interactive with
family and escapes reality through computer games leaving mom with
everything to handle alone. She runs a home day-care, has two other children
of her own and foster twin boys who are three. Her baby developed RSV when
she was around 4 weeks old. She never got over it well and now has fluid in
her lungs, is on antibiotics again and getting nebulizer treatments at home.
Baby has been a fussy baby in the evenings, stressing mom out. She has been
reluctant to try quitting dairy but finally did. Didn't see much improvement
in baby's behavior. Though both other children had trouble with dairy.

So essentially, there is a lot going on with this scenario. I think her
sleep deprivation and unsupportive husband could both be lending a hand to
her depression. Her doc has advised weaning the baby and going back on
medication for hyperprolactinemia. Seems to me there could be some
alternative. Though I think mom has been looking for a reason to wean for
nearly five months.

Any input is greatly appreciated.

boy right now)
