A question was posed about the routine fortification of all preterm
infant's mothers' milk. Hopefully the following references will help to
stop this practice!

Schanler RJ,Hurst NM: Human milk for the hospitalized preterm infant.
Seminars in Perinatology 1994;18:476-484.
Lemons JA, Schreiner RL, Gresham EL: Simple method for determining the
fat and caloric content of human milk. Pediatrics 1980;66:626-628.
Valentine CJ, Hurst NM, Schanler RJ: Hindmilk improves weight gain in
low-birth-weight infants fed human milk. J Pediatric Gastroent Nutr
1994;18:474-477.
Lucas A, Fewtrell MS, Morley R, et al: Randomized outcome trial of human
milk fortification and developmental outcome in preterm infants. Am J
Clin Nutr 1996;64:142-151.
Polberger S, Lonnerdal B: Simple and rapid macronutrient analysis of
human milk for individualized fortification: Basis for improved
nutritional management of very-low-birth-weight infants? J Pediatr
Gastroenterol Nutr 1993;17:283-290.

I do hope these help.
