Ferber's revision seems to me to be similar to Gary Ezzo softening
his parent directed feeding schedule from 4 hour intervals to 3 hour
intervals, as he did several years ago. He's not exactly recanting,
and (possibly to save face and/or avoid alienating parents who've
used his book in the past?) he is not distancing himself from earlier
versions of his book. But still, he is moving *a little* closer to
where most of us would like him to be.

I am glad that Ferber is acknowledging up front that CIO is not for
every baby, and that cosleeping is an acceptable option. His recent
quotes in interviews seem to reflect a glimmer of compassion and
understanding of the baby's point of view. I think it is good for
the mainstream parent to hear that it's no longer "Ferberize or else"
-- that there is room for different options.
