Dear Lactnetters
I have a 7 week old baby that is still hurting
mothers nipples. He takes a large mouthful and seems to be on fine but the
nipples have a slight ridge on them afterwards. Mothers nipples are always
tender. His tongue is bunched at the back and we have worked on the problem
with exercises and positioning with only a little success.
I had my hand on baby's head the other day while he was feeding and with
some suckles there was a feel as though a joint was slipping. It wasn't the
jaw but somewhere inside. It is difficult to explain. There is no sound, just
a feel. Does anyone have any idea what this could mean.
This baby takes forever to feed with a bottle and long teat, he finds it
difficult to draw the milk out. On the breast his feed is done in
10minutes. He is a happy well rounded wee boy but it would be nice for
mother to have comfortable breastfeeding.
I am in New Zealand and we do not have places to take babies for assessment
of their suckling, like speech therapists or OTs.
Thanks a lot
