Hi

I was just reading these posts and I have a question. Although we do know
from research that the alcohol gets cleared quite quickly, do we know if the
ENZYMES related to alcohol that stay in the blood for more than 24 hours are
transferred into the breast milk and/or if they are harmful for babies?

I only know about these enzyme being able to be detected as I have a very
sick friend (not breastfeeding) who has been regularly tested for alcohol in
the lead up to surgery - she was under the impression the doctors wouldn't
be able to detect anything if she had no alcohol for about 24 hours before
the testing. BUT one time she did have a drink or two and it was 48 hours
later the enzyme was still detected in her blood tests.

I believe in Australia our health authorities have recommended ZERO alcohol
during pregnancy and breastfeeding.

Thanks
Del
