Nertters,
For the nurses who want to aspirate stomach contents then trash them. Have
they forgotten Nursing 101 and nutrition for nursing. When checking
Gastric tube placement and prior to am feeds and flushes of these tubes we
have to aspirate stomach contents and return them or we have a possible
major fluid electrolyte imbalace, plus a yelling instructor and head nurse.
The same should hold true with the newborn- it was meant to be there!

Secondly - I do not remember the video- but for the childbirth certification
we saw a birth close up and upon exiting with the baby emerging and being
bent at the gut it had a "baby heimlich maneuver" and really spit the stuff
up on his own- really neat to see! but the baby doesn't get that with a C-
section. Will recheck to see the name of the video and report back.

Mechell Turner- M.Ed. IBCLC, CCE, student nurse- yes i did well on both
nutrition and NUR 101, thank heavens the first semester is over with.
