Agree with everything Pat Gima said and most of what you said, Lora: except:

No one inherits allergic disease, they only inherit genes that may mean a
tendency to develop it when put under certain conditions, such as comps,
intra uterine exposure to unmanageable doses, or via the uterus of a
food-intolerant mother, or exposure when the gut is damaged,
or....or...or...How to distinguish genetic from environmental contributions
is not easy.

There are times when I'd like to be able to blame the dads for this, but
alas, in practice it's much more relevant what happens directly to the
child in utero and postpartum.  Or else every child of a previously
allergic person would be allergic, ie by now there would be no non-allergic
humans in certain countries when at least some are still disease/symptom
free...!
