What do you Lacnet docs, especially neonatologists, think about
breastfeeding a newborn with pneumonia. Baby was crying, inconsolable
for hours on end, rooting, looking for the breast. Mom was not allowed
to breastfeed for fear of aspiration as baby was tachypneic (60-100
resp. per minute).
Second day mom was allowed skin-to-skin holding once. After that she
was told she couldn't hold baby because all he wanted to do was
breastfeed. He had been breastfed before being diagnosed with
pneumonia. Mom was getting nothing when she pumped.
