I am pretty sure that's a reasonable summing up, Laurie!

I agree with this - in the UK, there would be no discharge from care 
anyway, as the midwife has the statutory duty to care for the baby up 
to six weeks, though in practice she hands over to the health visitor 
at day 10-12, who then can see the baby as often as she thinks is 
necessary, at home. Most mothers of healthy babies come to clinic 
weekly at first.  This makes it easy for borderline cases, or cases 
where there have been problems in the past, to be followed up.

I certainly agree that this mother and baby should continue to be supported .
