I am glad Beth Johnson brought this up the medical terminology of the
word "denies."  It really grates on me to read this in posts also.

In my experience the health care profession uses this term to cover
their later liability in case they miss something.  They don't give the
patient the benefit of the doubt because it might come back to haunt
them.

When those on lactnet use this term, it does sound as though you doubt
what the mother is really saying, when that is probably not the case.
