From a muscular standpoint, NUK pacifiers are not too different from their
competitor's. The Orbicularis oris muscle will be more tense to create a seal
and the mentalis muscle at the chin will also have to overwork. In order to
accomplish this, the tongue will have to fall back, even as far as behind the
gumline. In my view, no pacifier (which I consider to be a mother substitue)
is a good pacifier. If one must be used, a style with a broad base to keep
the tongue down and forward is a much better idea. If the Ross labs dummys
weren't vanilla scented, they would be an ok choice but...

How about a clen finger inserted gently to the juncture of the hard and soft
palate instead? That is only if mom is not available.
