It can be difficult to address this issue with clients, patients and family memmbers...most of us have faced the question at some time. But I try to be positive and say "well it can be if you let it be...but let's look at the differences." (such as "I'll pump and bottlefeed the milk so I know how much he's getting." I certainly do not disagree with the others who have chimed in that there are some "personalities" who will accept the challenge easily and others who will always make it seem harder. But as someone who has bottle fed (yes, my oldest) and breast fed, I have een there, done that and it is easier after you get over some of the humps. Sounds like the doctor has a nice approach to this..and remember this is a practice for home birth so those patients may have a different attitude from the get-go.
