<What is everyone's experience?>

My experience has been that women are very different in their response to
the hormonal methods of contraception. Some have absolutely no problems even
w/Depo injection before leaving the hospital, others have *major* problems
r/t supply at whatever point the mini-pill or Depo or whatever is started.
And it seems to be one of those things you can't really predict ahead of
time; you don't know until the damage has already been done.

In addition to supply problems, they can cause troublesome, even dangerous,
mood alterations - Depo especially, and in the case of Depo you're stuck
with it for weeks. I would never recommend Depo for a woman w/any hx. of
depression.

IMHO, usually the risk:benefit ratio comes down on the side of using another
method. UNLESS in a given situation pregnancy prevention were of a higher
priority than anything else and other contraception methods were not able to
be used reliably. Which does in fact happen sometimes.
