Spencer says,

I<<n any case, the net result of my calculations was that in order for the
baby to get enough alcohol via the breastmilk to raise his/her blood
alcohol to lethal levels, s/he would have to consume, in a relatively
short period of time, 156 oz of breastmilk (or thereabouts - I know it
was over 150 oz). In other words, over the space of a few hours, the
baby would have to consume about *6 days* worth of breastmilk (avg
intake 25 oz/day).>>

And what everyone seems to conveniently forget is that the MER is so
impaired by the alcohol, that the amount of breastmilk the baby can get is
minimal!! That's why using IV alcohol to stop preterm labor, as well as sending
moms home drinking screwdrivers was so effective back in the day -- which
now that I'm the age I am, "back in the day" doesn't seem all that long ago.

Someone needs to help the people who are prosecuting these moms for
breastfeeding while drunk understand the mechanics of the physiology behind
alcohol and oxytocin.

I agree -- parenting while drunk is a whole lot different than blaming the
breastmilk.

Well -- off to church! God bless us everyone!
